Help Create a Brighter Future for our Youth

You have the opportunity to positively influence and impact the youth of our community by supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County.

When Chris was born, he wasn’t expected to survive without the use of medical devices. With Asperger’s Syndrome, his mother was fearful that Chris would never find his place in the world.  Living in the Bywater community, Chris was given the opportunity to become a member of the Boys & Girls Club.  After just one visit by Reggie to his home, Chris became a Club member.  His fear of the most basic things (grass, water, people) faded away over time and through programs such as Keystone and Junior Staff, it became clear that Chris’ future was in his hands. Those programs taught him leadership and gave him the social interaction skills he needed.  He was awarded the Youth of the Year Award in 2007 and is currently a sophomore at Anne Arundel Community College.  Chris just made the Dean’s List and is now employed at the Bywater Boys & Girls Club to give back to the community that believed in him as a homework tutor. We, and his mother, are amazed at the progress Chris has made.

Since 1988 the BGCAA has provided a safe, nurturing environment for all young people, especially those who need us most, in Annapolis & Anne Arundel County.  Today’s youth face greater challenges and stresses than ever before.  Challenges such as making ends meet, a parent losing a job, health concerns and the drop-out rate along with crime, drugs and delinquency are just some issues our youth face.  Without havens like Boys & Girls Clubs, children like Chris have fewer opportunities to receive positive guidance and support.

“Not once have I used my Aspergers as an excuse since becoming a Club member.”

People have a lot on their minds these days as they read headlines and hear troubling news about the state of our economy.  However, we should not lose sight of the fact that giving is a way for people and communities to pull together. While the economic forecasts are uncertain right now, what is quite certain is that there is no better time to support your Club and help change, and in some cases save, the life of a child.

This holiday season, please give generously and invest in our vital work.  No investment is too great to ensure the future of our children.  After all, it is our future.

With sincere appreciation,

Reginald Broddie, Chief Professional Officer & Brent Boone, Chairman of the Board,

P.S. Our children need us now, more than ever.  Help our positive staff save kids’ lives.  Thousands of youth will have a brighter future because you are making a difference.
