Celebration of Science

The gym at the Boys & Girls Club at Bates was filled to the rafters on Tuesday night with over 250 Bates Middle School science projects and 400 guest of all ages. From the "Edible Banana" to "Moon Tides" to "Flaming Bubbles", each science project was thought-provoking and unique.

Guest speakers at the awards presentation included Devon Lucie from Channel 9, Charlotte Church of the Maritime Museum, and Navy Academy football players Osei Asante (co-captain and guard), Greg Zingler (quarterback), and Billy Yarborough (defensive end).

Thanks to BGCAA's LET'S GO initiative, staff and volunteers were able to offer assistance and mentoring to 44 students from Bates Middle School for their science projects. Of these, 22 not only turned in the projects but received the acknowledgement that their projects were "Science Fair Worthy". On top of that six received Awards or Special Recognition from the Principal.
