Youth Beat
For over 20 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County’s (BGCAA) has taken members from the Clubhouse to the White House, from the games room to the corporate boardroom, from the Annapolis street of Copeland to Gordonstoun, Scotland. See what we can do!
State Senator John C. Astle, a passionate activist for hunting and fishing issues and 13 children from BGCAA ventured out on the Chesapeake Bay for the final tagging expedition of the 2010 Maryland Fishing Challenge, Featuring Diamond Jim.
Two local teens were selected by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County to receive scholarships to attend International Summer School in Gordonstoun, Scotland. The scholarship, provided by the Boys & Girls Scholarship Trust, provides the opportunity to interact with boys and girls from other parts of the world and experience life in a foreign country. All this with the backdrop of Scotland's magnificent scenery and everything it has to offer in sports and recreation. The teens leave in mid-July and will be sending us weekly updates about their adventures. To follow their journey click here. (click on photo see slide show)On June 16th members of the Admirals Oaks "Passport to Manhood" program journeyed to Cunningham Falls State Park for an overnight camping trip complete with smores, hotdogs, scary stories, and long hikes into the wilderness. Upon arrival members set-up a campsite, hiked up to the Falls, cut firewood, and cooked hot dogs and smores over the fire. After dinner a "Passport to Manhood" session on fatherhood was discussed followed by scary stories around the campfire! The next morning the campers enjoyed pancakes which energized them for a 3 mile hike to the Overlook. After cleaning up the campsite upon their return everyone enjoyed a dip in the lake before the ride home.
