Who We Are
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County (BGCAA) was founded more than twenty years ago in Annapolis by a group of concerned community members who felt there was a need for neighborhood youth to have a positive place to grow, learn and have fun. The mission of the Club is to enable all young people, especially those who need them most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The Club currently operates in six locations throughout Anne Arundel County. Bywater, the first Club in Anne Arundel County, is located in Annapolis along with Admiral Oaks, Bates Heritage Park, and Annapolis Gardens which opened March 1st, 2011. There are two county Clubs - Meade Village is located in Severn, and Freetown Village is located in Pasadena. BGCAA is a part of the national Boys & Girls Clubs of America movement that serves some 4.2 million boys and girls at some 4,000 Club locations in every state and overseas locations. Four key characteristics define the essence of each Boys & Girls Club. All are critical in exerting positive impact on the life of a child: 1. Dedicated Youth Facility The Boys & Girls Club is a place – an actual neighborhood-based building – designed solely for youth programs and activities. 2. Open Daily The Club is open every day after school, when kids have free time and need positive, productive outlets. 3. Professional Staff Every Club has full-time, trained youth development professionals, providing positive role models and mentors. Volunteers provide key supplementary support. 4. Available/Affordable to All Youth Clubs reach out to kids who cannot afford, or may lack access to, other community programs. Dues are low, averaging $20 per year. |
